EVERYBODY’S TALKIES. "THROUGH DIFFERENT EYES” An intensely interesting murder trial mystery story is told in “Through Different Eyes,” which will be seen and heard finally at Everybody’s talkies, New Plymouth, to-night. The story of the trial of Harvey Manning is so graphically told by Fox Movietone that one has the feeling of actually seeing and ' hearing a highly sensational murder trial unrolled before the eyes. The photography is as natural as life, and the dialogue is so well synchronised that the illusion is perfect. Excellent work was done by the cast, headed by Mary Duncan, Warner Baxter and Edmund Lowe. There is an excellent supporting programme of movietone featurettes. COMMENCING TO-MORROW. Described as the latest “aerial epic of the age,” “Love Never Dies” (“Lilac Time”) is one of the .most powerful stories ever brought to the screen. Colleen Moore, as. Jeannine the little French . virl, has a far different role from the liHit comedy parts usually assigned her, but nevertheless she lightens, the tenseness of the dramatic action with characteristic touches of lightness. Gary Cooper, as the British aviator, will win much sympathy, while the air sequences are indescribably, sensational. Imbued with beauty, pathos and power, “Love Never Dies” holds the interest with its truth as w:ell as magnificence of setting# and development. "Love Never Dies, which is a First National and Vitaphone sound synchronised special, will comzmence a Reason at Everybody’s Theatre to-morrow; at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. PEOPLE’S THEATRE. . FAMILY NIGHT TO-NIGHT. Columbia's big sound synchronised special “Submarine,” will . be finally presented at the People’s iheatie, New Plymouth, to-night. "Submarine,” is a mighty drama of the sea, giving you an * authentic picture of life beneath the surface of the ocean and a glimpse of the adventures and loves of- the boys in the navy. Jack Holt, Ralph. Graves and Dorothy Revier head the big cart There is an excellent supporting bill of “talkie” shorts. COMMENCING TO-MORROW. “The Dummy,” an all-talking production, will head the new programme at the People’s to-morrow at the matinee at 2' p.m. and in the evening at 8 p.m. “The Dummy” is Paramount’s latest offering, and is reported to be one of the best °of its kind presented to date. An excellent cast of stage-trained stars enact this comedy melodrama. Ruth- Chatterton, who was one of the leading stage, stars before she became associated with Emil Jamiings in his recent success, “Sins of the Fathers,” has proved her ability in moving pictures in iramount’s “The Doctor’s Secret.” Fredrie March whs playing in the stage success, “The Royal Family,” when he was induced to accept an important role in ■ “The’ Dummy,” John' Cromwell, .famous actor, director and producer of stage ■plays, who will shortly turn to directing Hound picture# for Paramount, is also in the cast. The story of “The Dummy” deals -with a group of kidnappers and a smart office boy who outwits them by playing deaf and <. .mb. It is well handled, Robert Milton being responsible for the direction. ENTERTAINING COMEDY. LEO CARRILLO’S TOUR. Great interest is being taken by playgoers in the appearance at New Plymouth next Wednesday night of the famous actor Mr. Leo Carrillo in the remarkably successful and entertaining comedy “Lombardi, Ltd.,’ which is creating something like a sensation wherever it is staged. As Mr. Carrillo is duetto appear in Melbourne next month the present tour cannot possibly be extended. The outstanding feature of “Lombardi, Ltd.” is the characterisation by Carrillo of the role of Tito Lombardi, but the play itself holds the attention of the audience fropi the rise to the fall of the curtain. Tito, the all-conquering, is adored by everyone,, not altogether for his art, but for his winning self, but with the isolation of the true artist he is not to be weaned from his brocades and chiffons until he finds his true inspiration in Phyllis Manning, a show girl, who accepts his adoration for all it is worth in dresses. She is a baggage, who “pulls his leg” and then runs off with another man to California. Tito’s heart is broken for fully ten minutes, ' but his temperament is too buoyant to allow him to wilt under the blow, and he soon discovers a jewel in Norah Blake, his chief fitter, who is only too ready to afford consolation to the stricken costumier. Interest is also lent by Tito’s utter disregard for business matters until he is forced to close up by the bank, but at the critical moment Daisy, one ’ of his adoring mannequins, who has caught the fancy of a "Vermicelli King,” comes to his assistance with an unlimited bank-roll. It is said that “Lombardi, Ltd.” is proving the best and most successful attraction New Zealand has ever known, even the records established by “Rose Marie” and “The Desert Song” being broken by this remarkable play. The box plans will be opened at Collier’s on Wednesday morning at 0 o’clock.
