ELEANOR BOLLING DELAYED
PACK ICE STILL UNSUITABLE. - By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, Jan. 17. Owing to the condition of the ice pack in southern latitudes, the departure of the Byrd Antarctic expedition supply ship Eleanor Bolling from Dunedin has been postponed until Monday. Advice received yesterday stated that the whaling fleet had not yet succeeded in negotiating the ice pack. v The Eleanor Bolling is loading additional bunker coal and will carry 50001 b. of fresh meat for transhipment to Jho whaling factory ship Kosmos when the two vessels meet in the Ross Sea.
It is expected that the Eleanor Bolling will overtake the barque .City of New York before it readies the ice. The latter vessel will be towed through the pack by the steamer. At- noon yesterday the City of New York, which left Port Chalmers on the morning of January 6 for the Bay. of was below latitude 56 degrees or about 760 miles south-east of Otago Heado. The ship then had about 500 miles to cover before reaching the ice belt.
