BOWS HOAX POLICE
DARING ROBBERY IN LONDON ;.■• . i . ’- ’ L PURSUERS RUN. OVER “WOMAN.* WAX MODEL ENSURES ESCAPE. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Jan. 16. The London police were ingeniously hoaxed by motor-car bandits. At Brornpton Road in the early morning a car drew up in front of a fashionable fur shop. A man threw a spare wheel at the plate-glass window, took a quantity of furs and a fully clothed wax dummy and then drove oil'. Two policemen, attracted by the noise, commandeered a taxi and pursued the robbers. The taxi was drawing near when’ the door of the fleeing Car opened and the clothed model, with' its face smeared with red paint, was thrown Out. The. police car over-ran it and, thinking the figure was a woman, the policemen alighted, only to find that the mangled, '•blood-smeared” mass was a hoax. By this time the bandits had escaped. Even ■the police had to laugh' at the'smartness 'and originality of the thieves.
