Mr. A. (TBrien, Opunake, leaves next) month on a visit to Sydney. Mr. J. E. Avery, New Plymouth, has been elected a member of the council of the Associated Booksellers of New Zealand. Mr. H. R. McKenzie, ex-chairman of the Auckland Harbour Board, is staying in New Plymouth. Mr. McKenzie is prominent in Auckland sporting circles. Licut.-Colonel Sir Emmanuel Hoyle, ißt., 0.8. E., a well-known English woollen manufacturer, is coming to New Zealand by the Rangitane, due at Wellington at the end of next week. The Secretary of the Treasury (Mr. A. D. Park) has been appointed chairman of the Local Government Loans Board, in succession to Mr. R. E. Hayes, who has retired from that position. Dr. L. Cockayne, C.M.G., F.R.S., has been invited to be one of the .vice- ; presidents of the great International Botanical Congress to be held at Cambridge, England, in August next. Delegates will attend from every country in the world. ' Major-General Sir Thomas Yarr, K.C.M.G., C. 8., is a passenger by the Rangitane, which is due to arrive at Wellington next Saturday. Sir Thomas served in the Great War, and from 1919 until 1921 was Inspector-General of Medical Services at the War Office. The appointment is gazetted of Mr,. J. R. Robertson, chief schedule officer, Chief Mechanical Engineer’s Office,, aa Departmental representative on the Government Railways Appeal Board, vic® Mr. F. Lindsay, who has resigned. Mr. Robertson will hold office until February 22, 1931. Mr. Thomas Edward Pearson, superintendent of parks to the Auckland City Council, was seized with a stroke while travelling in a council motor-car yesterday, states a Press Association telegram, and died shortly after removal to his home. Mr. Pearson had been parka superintendent since 1908 and was 72 years of age. Mr. N. S. Maclumpha recently relinquished his position as Liverpool ‘ ger for the Sansinena Company, Ltd.? . :to take up an appointment with tho 'New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board as travelling representative in the United Kingdom.
