SWIMMING CLUB EVENING

WIN FOR CAPTAIN’S TEAM. Last night’s club evening, conducted toy the Hawera Amateur Swimming Club, resulted in a win for the captain’s team 1/y 04 points to 74 points. As a result the tables are turned and the captain’s team leads by four points. It is the first time in the competition the captain’s side has won the lead. Weather conditions were only' fair, entries and attendance suffering in consequnce. Details are:—

The results for the Hawera district of the written music examinations conducted on November 9 by the Associated Board of the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal College of Music, London, are supplied by the honorary representative at Haweraj Mr. F. Bublitz (Miss J. M. Dix), Richard A. Illingworth (Miss J. I. Sutherland). . MAN Al A TOWN BOARD. The monthly meeting of the Manaia Town Board was held on Thursday evening, there being present Messrs. H. Mead (chairman), A.. J. Christie, A.' H. Yarrow, W. 11. Robinson and V. F. Winter.. The treasurer reported that the finances for the month of December were as follows: —Rates collected, £ll7 ss. fid.; rents, £l9 16s. 6d.; licenses, £2 10s.; clerical revenue, £4 10s.; cemetery account, £3 55.; total revenue, 1 C 147 2s. 3d. The chairman said that the rates were coming in very slowly. The dog tax for the coming year was fixed at 2s. 6d. for sheep and cattle dogs and 10s. 6d. for sporting dogs. Mr. P. Tarrant was appointed dog tax collector. The Audit Office returned the audited balance-sheets' of the town board, the ■domain board and the Waimate Domain Board. The engineer submitted an estimate of £75 for repairing and surfacing Sutherland Road. PERSONAL. The lion. W. A. Veitch, accompanied by Mrs. and Mies. A. Veitch, will arrive at Hawera by this evening’s express. They will spend the week-end as the guests of Mr. and Mrs. S. R. Veitch. Mr. Harry Washer left Hawera by car yesterday for Wellington. Mr. Fred White, of Auckland, who was a visitor to Hawera during tho' week, is spending a few days with his son in Mew Plymouth before returning north. MANUTAHI NOTES. The euchre party and dance arranged by tho Tongahoo and Manawapo Surf Club proved very popular despite tho inclemency of the weather. The hall was well filled with visitors from all parts of tho district. The prizes were won by Miss 0. Sullivan (Manutahi) and Mr. A. West (Manutahi) and tho consolation prizes went io Miss Sexton (Meremere) and Mr. B. Jackson (Wanganui). Tho Mascot Orchestra supplied the jnusic for the dance and Mr. J.
