NATURE-CRAFT.

■Peach and cherry stones may be formed with very little effort into interesting baskets and charms, suitable for watch charms, or part of a doll’s wardrobe. Odd rings may also be easily made from peach stones. To make the peach stone basket, you should first wash the stone perfectly clean. After drying it, either cut with a sharp knife, or file away part of the stone on each side, leaving just enough to form a handle. The kernel is then removed, and the stone rubbed down smooth with sand paper. A. cherry stone basket can be made in the same manner. To make a cherry stone chain, hold the stone firmly between the thumb and forefinger, and rub one side on a flat file laid on the table. When you have rubbed it nearly half through, turn the fjtonc over and rub the other side until only a ring is left. Then remove what is left of the kernql. Make several of these rings, and then with a sharp knife cut a slanting slit through the side of each one. . A little pressure on the side will enable you to link the rings together to form a chain. The ring is made by cutting away both sides of the peach stone, either with a knife, or by rubbing on a filo, making sure to leave a small portion near one end which is to serve as the setting. By filing and rubbing down the stone with sandpaper, it. can be made to almost any desired size. The -portion forming the setting is left in its natural rough state, part of the end benig cut away to give the effect of a polished stone.
