VISITORS ENTERTAINED. Subsequently the visitors and officials were entertained at supper. In the absence of the president (Mr. W. N. Stephenson), the chairman of . the committee (Mr.’J. Garcia) apologised for the unavoidable absence of Tommy Donovan, the victor in. the fight. He congratulated both boxers on the splendid fio-ht that had been put up, complimenting the loser (and his father) on the aame display that he had made. He also paid a tribute to the assistance given to Tommy Crowle by Tommy Thompson, who had been one of the first to fight under the association ten years ago. He expressed pleasure at seeing with them the Hon. E. H. Clarke, M.L.U., of Dunedin, and Mr. J. A. Kilmartin, of Dunedin* the latter a prominent figure in the boxing world. Reference was also made to the assistance given to the game by the amateurs and their trainers, who taught the lads to fight cleanly. Tributes were paid to the work of the referee, Mr. Maxwell, and also to the secretary, Mr. E. J. Carr. All briefly responded, the Hon. E. H. Clarke and other visitors complimenting the association on the splendid organisation of the tournament. . Mr. Garcia also made appreciative reference to the work done on the executive by Mr. W. Searle, who is leaving next week to take up farming on the West Coast, and. on behalf of the association he expressed regret at the necessity for his resignation but wished him success in the future.
