AUSTRALIAN YACHT TROPHY

VANESSA WINS FIRST HEAT. Rec. 11.35 p.m. „ Sydney, Jan. 16. The first heat for the Sayonara yachting cup was contested to-day, the competing yachts being the Vanessa (New South Wales representative and holder of the cup) and the Acrospire IV. (Victorian representative, challenger). The Acrospire IV. is a new yacht built specially for the race, which was ten miles seaward and return. A strong 22 miles an hour southeast wind and rough seas tested the competing yachts to the utmost. The Vanessa with a handicap of nine minutes fourteen seconds won easily. The Varncssa, which is a eight-metre craft, actually finished eleven minutes ahead of the Acrospire IV., which is ? Bine-metre yacht.
