Mr. and Mrs. Johnston-Tripps, Auckland, are visiting New Plymouth. _ Mr. J. E. Avery, New Plymouth, attending the booksellers’ conference aV Wellington. Mr. C. S. Rennell, secretary of the New Plymouth Harbour Board, who has been on leave, was in his accustomed place at the meeting of the board yesterday.

Mr. A. F. Ellis, C.M.G., Commissioner for the New Zealand board of the Brit* ish Phosphate Commission, and Mr. P» Butler, representative of Messrs Henderson and McFarlane, are visiting New Plymouth.

Visiting Auckland at the present time is the Hon. L. A. Martin, M.L.A., of New South Wales, who is accompanied by Mrs. Martin and Miss Martin. Lawyer, politician and farmer, he has made a success of all three. He and his sons are all keenly interested in giazin« land, and while in this part of the world he intends seeing as much as possible of farming methods. The death occurred at Christchurch this week of Mr. James Raymond Devereux, the originator of the “Green Lea diet and the author of “Eating to Banish Disease.” Mr. Devereux, who was thirty-nine years of age, was a son of Mr. ‘W. R. Devereux, of Christchurch. For many years he was in business on bis own account as a printer, but later he became interested in the subject. of dieting,- and, as al result of curing himself of disease’ by means of a special ' diet of uncooked vegetables and fruit, ho became an enthusiastic diet reformer.
