RANGITANE FOR NEW ZEALAND

The Rangitane, which is the third of the twin-screw motor-liners built for the New Zealand Shipping Company, is on her maiden voyage, and is due at Wellington on January 25. In construction she is identical with the Rangitata, which was recently at Auckland. The Rangitane’s trials proved very satisfactory, and on the passage from Glasgow to London the large party of builders’ officials, directors and other officials of the company on board spoke highly of the vessel’s performance and comfort. The Rangitane was taken over by the company immediately she arrived at the Albert Dock. As on the Rangitata, the Rangitane’s engine casing has been kept in such limits as to enable a straight alley way to be made the whole length of the cabins on each deck. This was not so in the Rangitiki, where it was necessary to carry the alley-ways outward round the engine casing, thus making four right-angle turns. It may be said that the furnishings and fittings in the service part of the Rangitane and in the third and second classes are practically the same as those in the Rangitata. There is some difference, however, in the first-class public rooms. SHIPPING TELEGRAMS. Lyttelton, Jan. 16. —Arrived: Wahine (6.40 a.m.), from Wellington; Kuku (10.15 a.m.), from Kaikoura.
