COMMENCEMENT OF NEW SERIES. WIGG AGAIN SCORES EASILY. Four races were decided under the auspices of the New Plymouth League Cycle Club last evening at the Tukapo grounds. There were good entries and the ground was in good order, though slightly holding. In the open two mile handicap the fast improving J. Wigg drew away from the field after one mile and won very easily by about 100 yards. The following officials were on duty: Judge, Mr. F. E. Orbell; time-keeper and starter, Mr. R. Aroa; handicapper, Mr. 11. W. Bocock; committee, Messrs. D. Lobb and D. George. The results were: —

A Grade, half mile (first of a series of. three races for a gold medal)—First heat: C. Lehrke (45yds) 1; C. Aroa (36yds) 2; A. Ellis (4ayds) 3. Won by ten yards with half a wheel between second and third. Time, Imin 14 l-ssec. Also started: 8. McCann and U. Parker (scr), 11. Yardley (30yds), J. Wigg (45 yds). Lehrke led throughout and won easily. Parker left McCann at the start, and finished close behind the placed riders. McCann retired early. Aroa beat Ellis and Wigg by half a wheel in a good finish. Second heat: R. Sole (50 yds) 1; A. Taunt. (OOyyds) 2; E. Young (50yds) 3. Won by one and a-half lengths, with half a length between second and third. Time, Imin 15see. Also started: D. George and G. Sole (69yds), L. Roberts (55yds), L. Clafl'ey (65yds), L. Tuffery (65yds). G. Sole and George were the early leaders, but in the last lap Roy Sole went to the front and won well, Taunt hanging on to beat Young by half a length. Final: R. Sole 1, C. Lehrke 2, C. Area 3. Won by two and a-half lengths, with half a length between second and third. Time, Imin 15 4-ssec. Also started: A. Taunt, E. Young and A. Ellis. A Grade, two miles. —J. Wigg (120 yds) 1, C. Aroa (90yds) 2, C. Lehrke (120 yd 3. Won by 100 yards, with a tyre between second and. third. Time, smin 40sec. Also, started: S. McCann and C. Parker (scr), R. Yardley (90yds), A. ; Ellis (120yds), R. SoM and E. Young (IGOydp), A. Taunt and G. Sole (2(X) : yds), C. Gilbert and L. Tuffcry (220 yds). After three laps had been covered Wigg hit the front smartly and that was the end of (he race as far as first place was concerned. He increased his lead throughout to win by more than the length of the straight. At the end of a mile Gilbert and Yardley were well clear of the rest, Gilbert retiring soon after that stage. When the bell rang Wigg was CO yards clear, followed by Yardley, who was 25 yards ahead of Aroa, Lehrke and Parker together. The latter bunch caught Yardley entering the straight and in a great tussle between Lehrke and Aroa for second place Aroa gained tlie place by inches. S. McCann retired after two laps, being of no use to Parker. B. Grade, half mile—M. White (50 yds) 1, B. Sole (55yds) 2, B. Berryman (35yds) 3. Also started.: B. Reilly (scr). Won by half a wheel, with two lengths between second and third. Reilly half a wheel away fourth. Time, Imin 22scc. B. Sole led over the first round and White took up the running in the second round. Sole finished well but failed by half a wheel. Messenger boys’ half mile.—G. Parkes (50yds) 1, W. Jones (scr) and L. Erb (10yds) (lead heat for second. Also started: W. Martin (70yds), Warren (80yds), C. Fox (40yds). Parkes took the lead in the last lap and won easily. Time, Imin 30sec. The points in the scries arc:— A. Grade. —R.
