ATTACK ON CONSTABLE
BULLOCK-DRIVER imprisoned.
Palmerston North, Dec. 28.
“Assault seems to be one of his pastimes,” remarked. Senior-Sergeant Whitehouse in the Palmerston North Magistrate’s Court this morning, when referring to N. Campbell, a bullockdriver, aged 42, who appeared charged with being found drunk in Main Street yesterday, and also with assaulting a constable while engaged in the execution of his duty. - , . “He is one of these fellows who think that policemen are fair game to knock about, and he wants teaching differently,” continued the senior-sergeant, explaining how Campbell-had become very vmimit and had had- to be thrown out by a constable. While walking down the passage in the police station he had struck at Constable Colbournes right eye and although the constable had -maided the blow his head had been knocked against the wall. Accused had a list of eleven previous convictions, including assault, threatening behaviour and obscene language, in addntion to numerous convictions for drunkenness. On the charge of assault Messrs. AJ. Graham and F. -W. Council, J s-U sentenced accused to one month s i • nrisonment, while his offence of drun® enness cost him five shillings, m ' e a 24 hours’ imprisonment.
