DISMISSAL OF P. & T. MEN

THE ACCUSATION DISCLOSED.

By Tciegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Dec. 30.

Mr. G. McNamara, secretary of the General Post Office, states that a wrong impression has been created by the reports that the men dismissed, from the Auckland telegraph office are charged merely with using the office telephones to make bets. The accusation was that they had disclosed information which came to them officially. They would be entitled to a refund of the amount paid for superannuation and had the right of appeal. Sir Joseph Ward has received a protest against the sentence, and replied that he would attend to it when the official papers reached him. The organiser of the Post and Telegraph Employees’ Association has given out a statement that the- men were charged with discussing racing over the telephone, and what they had done was nothing seriorx.
