EARTHQUAKE AT DISTANCE
RECORD TAKEN IN WELLINGTON.

A distant earthquake was recorded by the Dominion Observatory on December 17, in connection with which reports have also been received from Apia and Sydney. It appears it originated in the vicinity of the Aleutian Islands, probably out at sea, and was of considerable intensity at the seat of origin.
