RIFLE CHAMPIONSHIPS
NORTH ISLAND FIXTURE. CAPTAIN NEILSON WINS BELT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wanganui, Last Night. The North Island championship rifle shooting meeting was concluded on the Putiki range at Wanganui on Saturday. A high north-east wind made shooting difficult, but some exceptionally good scores were returned. Captain A. Neilson, of Napier, retained the championship belt with 327 points. Rifleman T. Orr, of Greytown, was second with 320, and Rifleman J. Patterson, of Wanganui, third with 317. In the Manawatu match J. G. Turnbull (New Plymouth) and W. J. Green (Okawa) were equal first with 49 points, and D. Calder (/Vkarana) was third. The Hawke’s Bay match resulted in a win for F. C. Hogg (Wanganui). T. Orr (Greytown) was second and D. P. T. Goodall (Suburbs) third. The North Island teams’ match resulted in a victory for the Wanganui team, Petone being second and Opaki third.
T. Orr (Greytown) won the Marybank aggregate. The tyro championship was won by A. S. Berryman (Dannevirke).
