SCENE IN CALCUTTA
MOB THREATENS EUROPEANS.
Calcutta, Dec. 19. There was an ugly scene in the European quarter of Calcutta, when a threatening mob of 300 Kabuli money-lenders gathered in front of a European’s house in Theatre Road, as a result of an unfounded rumour that a Kabuli moneylender had been murdered in it.
In no time carriages -arrived from all parts, some from great distances, the rumours having spread throughout the bazaars.
-The European inmates were compelled to take refuge on the upper floor. Police reinforcements were necessary before the mob was dispersed.
