CRICKET FOR HAWKE CUP
RAIN STOPS MANAWATU GAME.
POVERTY BAY’S LOW SCORE.

Palmerston North, Last Night. Rain stopped play in the Hawke Cup cricket match between Poverty Bay and Manawatu this afternoon. Poverty Bay carried its first innings score to all out for 92, which was 84 behind Manawatu’s first innings total of 176. Manawatu in the second innings had lost five wickets for 158 when rain stopped play. This morning C. Low and Bennett, the Poverty Bay batsmen, continued their innings, but the former did not last long, being caught by A. M. Ongley when four. Six wickets were down for 70. Cave and C. Low also did not last long. The former made six and was then bowled by McVicar. O’Connor, the last man in, was bowled by Gallichan after making two. The innings closed for 92. Bennett, 23 not out, was top scorer. Broughton and Oliver opened Manawatu’s second innings. The latter did not last long, being clean-bowled at two runs by O’Connor. McVicar was the next batsman. Runs came slowly, and at the end of an hour’s play 25 had been scored. At luncheon the score was one wicket for 40 runs. McVicar 19 and Broughton 20 were the not-out men at 2.40, when the score had reached. 56 for one wicket. The scores were: —
