CHRISTINE’S CHRISTMAS.
It- wouldn’t have happened if Christine hadn’t had to stay at school for Christinas. But she did. It was just like Angela-Mary (who was Christine’s Now Mother’s little girl) to catch some sort of illness, so that Daddy wrote and said that Christine - must stay at school.
"1 wish you could come home with me,” sighed Roxanne, who was Chris’ best pal; "but we’re all going to grandmamma’s.”
"Doesn’t matter, ’* said Christine; "it wouldn't have been much fun at home, anyway." Weil, really, it wouldn't. Not dreadfully. Only it was still less fun at school.
Until Chris made the giant slide. Of course, matron didn’t know, and so Chris went on with it. though she knew (secretly), how naughty she was. And, truly, it was rather dull alone at school in hols.
And then, on Christmas Eve, matron went shopping. "I’ll slide,” said Chris to herself, putting on her tammy. She did! Right across the road (because she couldn't atop) in front of doctor's car.
"ij-icss • me!” said doctor, when he’d pulled up an inch away from Chris, and helped her up. And then he was so nice that Chris started crying. Yes, although she was in the fourth form, and what do you think doctor did? Ho bundled her straight into his car, and said; — "I know somebody who's coming home with inc to keep Christmas with my little girlie, who is lonely, too!” And when they passed matron on the way, and doctor explained, matron said, "My word, I hope you have a happy time, dearie.” "But,” chuckled Chris to herself, "She doesn’t know about my slide!” But matron did when she got back, because (I’m sorry to say) she slipped on it. But she didn’t hurt herself, and it was great fun for her to be able to get home herself, after all, so site forgave Christine right away!
