The opening day of the South WaL rarapa Trotting Club’s annual meeting was held to-day on the Clareville race- ’ course in perfect weathej. There was a large attendance and the course was in good order. The totalisator handled £9654 10s, as against £6876 on the corresponding day last year. After the seventh race an inquiry was held into Die running of Lightfoot, which was placed second after being unplaced earlier in. the day.
