WOMEN'S DIVISION

EXPANSION OF MOVEMENT. The Wellington Central Provincial Executive of the W.D.F.U. was formed recently when delegates. ,from Alarton, Feilding, Taihape, Bulls, Huntervillo and Ohingaiti branches met at Taihape. Airs. Stevens, Alarton, was elected president.

The activities of the division have been extended to Kawhia South. A very interesting trip was taken by Airs. 0. K. Wilson, president of the Pio Pio branch, and other members with the yb« ject of forming a branch of the division at South Kawhia, where a meeting was held in the hall. After- a delightful luncheon Airs. Wilson explained the movements of the division and a branch was formed. Airs. Aliln was elected president and Airs. Alosley secretary. « A meeting was convened by the Invercargill branch at Wyndham a short time ago with a view to forming a branch there. Mrs. Niedrer, president of the Invercargill branch explained the work of the division, and Airs. Russell and Airs. Alay also spoke. Airs. T. A. Robinson was elected president. The Wanganui branch combined forces with the Victoria League in entertaining Lady Alice Fergusson on her .farewell visit to Wanganui. A musical programme was arranged and Lady Alice was presented with a Wanganuimade travelling rug, with her monograin worked on it. The branch took oyer the book club at the beginning of October, and since then Airs. Alartin, honorary librarian, with the help of Airs. Staveley, has done good work in packing and sending out parcels of books and unpacking and arranging packages received from branches.

The Eltham branch held a most interesting and helpful meeting on December 14. Airs. Cocker, president, was in the chair, and there was a fair attendance. The. replies to remits sent from the conference, dealing with health, education, etc, were thoroughly discussed and gave scope for a good deal of debate. It was proposed to hold a street day at a date' t& be arranged later. No meeting is to be held in January, 1930. The division has at’the present time 4607 members and 81 branches.

The Inglewood branch met on December 11, when business was condensed as much as possible so that the last gathering for the year could be made a musical and social one. There was a good attendance of nlembers and the president, Mrs. Marsh, extended a hearty welcome, to the eleven new ones. The membership is now 82. Business disposed of, the rest of the afternoon passed pleasantly with music, competition, tea and conversation. On .December 14 the stall realised £7. Mrs. Smith presented an iced cake, Mrs. Bennett a dinner, consisting of stuffed.fowls, vegetables and a pie, and Mrs. Bozeroft a baby goat. Mrs. C. J. Harris represented the North Taranaki branches of the division at the meeting held'in New Plymouth to arrange for the entertainment of the overseas farmers. Members around New Plymouth hope to be able to entertain the ladies in the party for a short-time during their stay.
