ILLEGAL LOTTERY HELD

CONVICTION AT WELLINGTON. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Dec. 20. An unauthorised raffle, by which it was hoped to obtain funds in aid of the club, resulted in the appearance in court today of Frank Chapman, of the Marunui Surf and Life-Saving Club, who pleaded guilty. A fine of £5 was imposed. The chief detective remarked that illegal lotteries were fairly prevalent, but it was not an easy matter to get at those responsible. Chapman was. the member of the executive of the club elected to be charged when the police paid a visit to the clubhouse.
