EARTHQUAKE SUFFERERS

RELIEF MEASURES APPRECIATED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. / Wellington, Dec. '2O. Murchison people, through their local earthquake relief committee, send to the people of New Zealand a message of Christmas greetings and thanks for the splendid manner in which they “spontaneously and liberally subscribed to the relief funds,” which not only cheered them but enabled them materially to restore their homes. Inter-alia the message says: “In the first day or two after dune 17, when our nerves were shaken, our homes wrecked and much of the countryside devastated, a dark cloud seemed to hang over us, but soon a silver lining began to show, for we heard by wireless and read in the papers that relief funds were being raised in several centres. Day by day the movement spread until we realised that the whole of the people of the Dominion were eager to bear some of our burden, and we were able to face our difficulties with renewed hope. “The psychological effect of your prompt action was of the utmost importance. Almost before we could fully realise the extent of our loss', your generous assistance was in sight and we. at once took heart. We realised .that with so many of your standing by us we could approach the difficult task of reconstruction with courage and confidence. Had it not been for the liberal measure

of sympathy and financial help, some would - doubtless have completely lost heart, and now, because of all that you have done for us, we are for the most part rapidly recovering in mind, body and estate. “Some of us are still unable to return to our homes for various reasons, but dur lot is not so bad after all. “Thanks to your' generosity we shall all be able'to enjoy our Christmas.”

edy are introduced. by Harry Green, of vaudeville fame, and the irresistible Jack Oakie. The rest of the cast includes some of the best character people in Hollywood. Dialogue enhances the action of the drama and permits of many bits of clever humour getting across to the audience. The supports include Lillian Roth and Her Piano Boys (singing and musical), “False Alarm Fire Company” (Smith and Dale comedy), “Mother Pin a Rose on Me” (Paramount novelty singing cartoon), and the Melbourne Cup. Presented in sight and sound it will- let you see and hear the winning of this great event by the brilliant New' Zealand horse, Nightmarch.
