The appointment of collectors was left in the hands of the secretary. The annual picnic on New Year’s Day is to be held on the Huatoki Domain. Power was given the reel class committee to expend a sum of money toward prizes for this gathering, the hope being expressed that as many members and friends of the society as possible would attend, as the children would be specially catered for. Borough buses would be running at convenient times during the day from 10 a.m. The opinion having been expressed that it' was necessary to popularise the Burns’ supper, it w*as decided to hold a social evening in St. Marya Hall, with only two addresses, “The Immortal Memory” and “Caledonia,” the rest of the evening being devoted to songs and Highland dances, interspersed with ballroom dancing. In this connection the Hon. H. Atmore, Minister for Education, wrote in reply to the society’s invitation that providing his Parliamentary duties permitted he would be pleased to attend and deliver an address., Last year Mr. Atmore spoke at the Burns’ Club celebration at Dunedin. The society will be represented at the reception to the party of oversea farmers in New Plymouth early in the year. The guarantee in connection with the forthcoming sports gathering on February 1 was fixed, the secretary stating that inquiries were still being made for copies of the programme, and entries were now coming in. The two open events for boys and girls under 12, fling and hornpipe, were likely to prove very popular. The chief referred to the splendid muster of bandsmen for the St. Andrew’s Day celebration, and on his motion a letter was directed to be sent to the Hawera Pipe Band thanking it for assistance that day.
