MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The Kaponga Brass Band opened its Christmas carolling campaign on Tuesday evening, when the Mahoe district was visited. The route was along the Eltham Road to the upper Duthie Road corner, thence up the upper Duthie Road and along the Stratford-bpunake Road to the Manaia Road corner. At all the houses visited selections were given by the band under the conductorship of Mr. P. Thoumine, and the response. to the collectors gratifying. Although there was not quite as good an attendance as was expected at the picture benefit entertainment on Wednesday evening on behalf of the funds of the Plunket Society, those present were treated to a very fine programme. The society will receive as much benefit as in the past, as expenses were much less this year. The first round of the Egmont Tennis Association’s shield competition was concluded last Saturday. It is hoped to commence the second round early in February, matches being postponed in January on account or farming operations. To mark the close of a successful year and to present the certificates won a very pleasant social evening was held by the Kaponga branch of the Red Cross and Home Nursing Society. The Rev. P. J. Cossum, chairman of the branch, presided. In presenting the certificates the chairman congratulated the candidates. All who had sat for the examination had passed. That reflected most creditably on the work of Nurse Ingles. He presented the certificates for the elementary course to Miss M. Johnstone, S 9 (honours); Mrs. "E. Brisco, S2 (honours); Miss M. Guy, 7'9; Miss Linda Davies, 79; Mrs. J. H. Tyack, 76; Mrs. T. Henry, 75; Miss Ellis Crowley, 74; Mrs. I. Evans, 7'2; Miss. Betty Cossum, 7'2; Mrs. E. Brewer, 70; Mrs. N. C. Davies, 68; Mrs. J. Guy, 66; Miss Jean Guy, 66; Mrs. G. B. Guthrie, 61; Miss Mary Crowley, 61; Miss Mary Malone. The chairman made from class members to Sister Ingles.
