BOYS’ AND GIRLS’ CLUBS

THE YEAR’S COMPETITIONS RESULTS IN NORTH TARANAKI. ; JUDGES’ REPORT SUBMITTED. The completion of the judging of the calves in the Boys’ and Girls’ Agricultural Clubs competition this year shows how firmly established the movement is in North Taranaki and how steady progress has been maintained, states the report on the work. The decision of the executive to broaden the work to include the rearing of pedigree calves has 'been amply justified by the results. The figures for this year compared with those of last year are:— Calves Entered. Grade Pedigree 1028-20 268 — 1929-30 3T2 25 Calves Judged. Grade Pedigree . J 928-29 215 — 1929-30 272 19 Percentage Judged. •' Grade Pedigree 1928- 80-2 — 1929- 87 76 A larger percentage of calves came before the judges than in previous years and condition and type have been well maintained. Indeed, the animals were better than they were last year and the •judges could find nothing but praise for -the work of the competitors.’ The fact that competitors are choosing better animals for rearing was made clear last year and this year further proof was not wanting for the marks for type were generally high. Only the grade calves were judged at the schools and the best of these were chosen to .proceed to the Waiwakaiho show grounds for the choosing of the champions. A most successful filial day was held at the A. and P. Society’s show grounds on December 18. The judging was preceded by a judging competition for the competitors who this year were required to score three grade Fresian calves. The competition resulted in some very close scoring and the placed competitors were: Aiken Julian, Warea, 1; Doris Goldsbury, Lower Mangorei, 2; May Weir, Lower Mangorei, 3. The judges were agreeably surprised

with the records and are satisfied that the book system is preferable to the older chart system,. ... . The details of the judging are: — CHAMPIONSHIP. _ . 4 CONDITION COMPETITION.
