CAMPAIGN AGAINST CANCER

ORGANISATION .IN NEW ZEALAND.

By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Dec. 5.

The adjourned meeting of the New ( Zealand Anti-Cancer Campaign Committee was held yesterday to consider the changes in the rules suggested by Auckland.

Dr Elliott, president, said the principal matter at issue was whether there should be a central controlling body or whether each division should have complete autonomy. The present body in Britain held that there should be central control in such matters to prevent overlapping and loss of efficiency in research work. -

The principle of the equal representa- i tion of the divisions was generally approved, and it was decided to recommend an alteration of the rules so as to provide that three delegates should be.; appointed on the central committee by j each division, the Mayors of the four j chief cities and the chairmen of the four chief hospital boards to be ex officio members of the committee, and deputy delegates to be appointed when- necessary. Mr. Shirtcliffe asked if, in view of the alteration now recommended in the rules, Auckland people would desire complete autonomy. Dr. Elliott said if the representatives would go back to Auckland and explain that the constitution of the central committee had been altered to meet their desire for equal representation of divisions, Auckland would com into line. If not it would be a great pity, as Auckland would cut itself off from the Imperial Cancer Campaign and lose all the prestige and inspiration to be derived from association with the movement. The Auckland delegates said they would put the considerations before the Auckland people. They felt confident that whatever misunderstanding might have existed w° u ld be cleared.
