ART TREASURES SHIPPED
FINE ITALIAN COLLECTION.
LONDON EXHIBITION PROJECT.
British Wireless. Rugby, Dec. 4. Italy yesterday despatched her great contribution of art treasures to the forthcoming exhibition of Italian art at Burlington House, London. There were 300 pictures, of which 230 are old and 70 modern, together with a wonderful collection of statues, old furniture, lace, ivory and bronzes. Fourteen specially constructed steel vans containing the cases were taken under escort from Milan to Genoa, where the contents were transferred to the specially chartered and appropriately-named ship Leonardo da Vinci, which later sailed for London accompanied by naval tugs. The exhibition, which opens on January 1, will last until March 8. In addition to Italy’s great contribution, Kiner George and other British art lovers are lending works from their private collections, and the United States. Francfe, Germany, Belgium, Holland and other countries are contributing to the exhibition.
