FORBS UNDER REVIEW

RESUME OF SPRING RACING

FORM BECOMES STABILISED.

GLANCE THROUGH THE IMPROVERS

LIGHT SHED ON SUMMER RACING.

Rabbi is up to top class-, and he is consistent. He has been a good winner and there should be more cups for him* this season. His owner -must be regretting that .he did not nominate him for the Auckland Cup.-

Now that Arrow Lad has found himself on the winning list the • Awapuni sprinter should’ be worth Watching. He goes equally well on heavy or hard tracks and up to a middle distance he is good in any company. A Lady Quex had no difficulty in dis-, posing of the sprinters at Tafcajuna, and hopes are, entertained that she is •back to her best' form. again. She is a useful -sprinter, blit not' quite up to “town hall” company.

Vallar ran unplaced behind Lady Quex on Saturday,- but next time out will find him a much better horse. He should be cherry ripe for the summer carnivals, and his brilliancy will keep the others scratching. An A.R.C. Railway Handicap may find him in favour. * • « ®

Prodice made the Alison Cup field look cheap. She is one of the best mares in commission and up to a-mile and a-half she can move as well as the next one. She runs good races at Ellerslie and will be watched at Christmas.

Goshawk was a good thing beaten in the open seven at Otaki, and that showing caused bettors to burn their fingers at Levin. The Magpie gelding started at Feliding but was not prominent until the finish, and many will be watching him next time out, though seven furlongs or a mile will suit him better.

The heavy track at Feilding proved the downfall of Paganelli and cost the public over. £lOOO. But the majority of punters are not worrying, because this brilliant galloper will go better when the tracks firm. He likes Ellerslie.

“Horses for courses” fits The Raider well; the best son of Warplane has won at five of his last six starts on his home track. His ability to begin well stands him in good stead, and on a turning course he always takes a lot of catching.

it it a it Cimabue raced well enough in Sydney to suggest that he would win good races in the Dominion this spring, but after winning on the second day of the Wellington meeting he failed rather badly at Riccarton. It was therefore not surprising that the public dropped him at Feilding. Cimabue won well — it was one of his best efforts to date — and he may 'be a dangerous contender for sprint honours at Christmas.

Nothing was given a chance in the Feildiing Stakes against Paganelli, excepting Ceremony, but the Absurd gelding, who had performed so well in Sydney, ran a shocking race. It was not his true form and the heavy tracks may have had something to do with his downfall. Ceremony races best under a light weight, and with 13 pounds off his back he may surprise many in the Auckland Racing Club Railway Handicap. 'Mt Mr * Mr

Among the'lesser lights nothing pleased more than the New Plymouth mare Gold Dawn. She was not well placed either day at Feilding, but on Monday she finished resolutely to run in for third money. • It was a rattling good effort and many will keep her in mind for the sprints at Hawera. J . * # * # Ridgemount showed pace at Takapuna, but he did not finish well. It was not his true form and when remembering that he gallops best on top of the ground, his failures may be overlooked. He is a good enough proposition to keep in view from now on, though Christmas and February may find him at his best. « # « * Taurua continues to run unluckily, but the main factor contributing to his recent defeats has been poor riding. The full-brother to Te Monanui and Ohinemuri impresses one as likely to go a long way in the game, and it will be surprising if he does not lose his maiden status this month.

Vali ran a great race in the Takapuna Plate and again went well on Monday, but second dividends were the best he could return his admirers. Both efforts were full of merit and, better served in the running he might have had two wins. Up to a middle distance he should go well in any company. _ • King Midas failed to pay a dividend either day at Feilding, but he ran two fine races. His forte is a concrete-like track, and it is surprising that he showed up as well as he did. He needs only to go on the right way to win races at Christmas, and there .will be some

stake-money for him at Wellington in January.

The Hunting Song—Gay colt Hunting Day raced impressively last spring, when he twice chased Supremacy home and incidentally earned £350 in place money. Monday saw his first appearance for twelve months, and he •made the maidens look cheap. This ..three-year-old is good and should soon run out of the hacks. . . ■.

Chopin’s win at Feilding on. Monday was surely the reward of consistency. The Lord Quex gelding has not run a bad race this season. Chopin is many , removes from good class, but he is such a game customer that he looks likely ( to pay his way at the minor meetings. .

A good performer in the South Island is Black Ditke. Tho seven-year-old can '•am his own in any company from six

furlongs to a mile. In second-rate company ten furlong cups are-not beyond his compass, and 'he should win his share of stake money at tho holiday gatherings in tho other island. =» . o a ■ «> ' Mr. G. D. Greenwood’s 1490 guinea, filly Praiso gives every indication cf being the best two-year-old of the season. Breeding, appearance and stylo all support this contention, and if she goes to Auckland this month to contest tho Great Northern Foal, Royal and Champagne Stakes, for which she is entered, sho will bo well supported.. ' ■■<?'? ■ « • « * - # . Talisker was decisively beaten in . tho Feilding Jubilee Cup, but ho received the worst possible run in that race and it is reasonable to expect better of hint during the holidays. Ho goes well on tho hard tracks, and at tho minor meot£, ings should find him a dangerous cdh/ tender for cup honours. ’ •
