ADDINGTON VALUES FIRM.

BEEF AND MUTTON UP.

Christchurch Dec. 4.

At the weekly metropolitan market at Addington to-day, both beef and mutton prices showed increases on those of last week's sale. There was a largo entry of fat cattle, but in the fat sheep section there was a short supply—the smallest for some time. Fat lamb values finned on recent rates, but the fat pig prices showed no alteration. Store Sheep.—An average yarding, with wethers in good supply. The market was much firmer for all classes. Wethers improved by Is 6d to 2s a head. Values were: Good four and six-toothed Romney wethers, 25s Od to 275; medium good four and six-tooth Romney wethers, to 25s Gd; good four and six-toothed half bred wethers to 25s 6d; ordinary half bred wethers to 20s 3d; backward half bred wethers, to 15s; good halfbred ewe hoggets (woolly), to 29s 3d; medium Corriedale ewe hoggets (woolly), to 20s; halfbred wether ewe hoggets (woolly), to 20s lid; half bred wether ewe hoggets, Iss 7d to 18s 2d; small halfbred wether ewe hoggets, to 14s; sound-mouthed ewe hoggets, to 14s; sound-mouthed ewes, with lambs (woolly), 15s lOd to 17s; good 2 and 4-tooth halfbred lambs, to 25s 9d; Merino wethers (woolly), 7s to Ils 3d.

Fat Lambs. —A total of 511 was entered —a much smaller number than at recent sales. The market was firmer by up to Is 6d a head. .Over a keen sale the average price per lb. was 9d to 9y>d. Fat Sheep. —A small entry of only about 2500. Prices for all classes increased on late rates by up to 2s a head. Extra prime shorn wethers sold to 37s 7d; prime wethers, 32s to 34s 6d; medium wethers, 27s 6d to 31s Gd; light wethers, 22s 6d to 275; extra prime shorn ewes, 30s 6d to 33s Id; prime ewes, 25s to 29s 6d; ordinary ewes, 22s to 245; light .ewes. 19s to 21s Gd; woolly wethers, to 38s 7d; best woolly ewes, to 39s lOd.

FAT CATTLE FIRMER. Fat Cattle.—A total entry of 400 head, with no “outside” cattle. Prices improved on .those of last week’s sale by up to £1 a head for all classes, especially primer sorts. Best medium weight prime beef, made from 46s to 48s per 1001 b; good medium weight prime beef firm 42s to 455; heavy steer beef, from 41e to 445; good cow beef, to. 425; secondary, 34s to 375; light and rough to 335. Store steers sold to £22 17s 6d: heavy prime steers, £lB 10s to £2l 10s; medium weight prime steers. £l7 15s to ss; ordinary heifers, £l3 to £l4 10s; light steers, £ll to £l3; extra £l4 15s to £l6 ss; ordinary heifers, £l3 to £l4 lOe; light heifers, £7 10s to £l2; prime heifers to £l7 2s 6d; prime heifers, extra prime cows to £lB 7s 6d; prime cows, £l4 10s to £l6 10s; medium cows, £l2 5s to £l4 ss; light and aged, £8 to £l2. Vealers. —A small entry with a few small calves camo forward. It was a good sale, with little quotable change <n recent values. Top price was £7 10s. Good vealers made from £4 to £5; best calves, 45s to 60s; and others, 10s to 13s.

Store Cattle. —A larger entry than usual met with keen competition. Prices were on a par with recent rates. Two-year-old steers made £8 ss; best fredi cows, up to £8 ss; 18-month heifers, £5 10s 6d to £6 16s; and yearling steers, £5 13s 6d to £B. Bulls were in good demand at prices up to £7 13s 6d. Dairy Cattle. —A small yarding of average quality. Prices were much the same as those ruling last week. Values were: Best second and third calvers, to £l3 10s; others, £8 to £l2 10s; good heifers, £ll to £l2 10s; others, £7 to £lO 10s.

Fat Pigs.—A large entry met with an irregular sale. Both porkers and baconers sold on a par with last week’s prices. Porkers eased toward the close of the sale. Values were: Choppers, 30s to £6 6s; baeoners, £4 5s to £4 16s Od; average price per lb., 0y 2 d to 7%d; porkers, 42s to 635; average price per lb., 7Jd to S'/sd.

Store Pigs.—A medium entry, and prices showed decline of up to 4s on last week’s sale. Values were: Stores,’ 28s to 425; slips, 22s to 24s 6d; weaners, 10s to 21s 6d.

BURNSIDE VALUES DOWN.

SHARP DECLINE IN “FATS.”

There was a sharp decline in the prices obtained for most classes of stock at the Burnside sales to-day. Fat cattle, sheep and lambs were the more affected section. The reduction in fat cattle prices was from fl 10s to £2 a head, while sheep declined to the extent of 2s and 5s per head, lambs from 3s to 4s per head. Store cattle, with the exception of cows, sold at late rates, and the pig market was firm. The fat cattle entry, totalled 280 head, consisting of good average to prime animals, with a few heavy weights and a number of prime cows. Heavy bullocks sold up to £22.105; medium to £l9 ss, light to £lB 10s, heavy heifers to £l3, medium to £l7, light to £lO 15s, heavy .cows to £l4 ss, medium to £l2 15s, light to £ll 15s. Prime ox beef sold round about 50s per 1001 b. The sheep entry totalled 2880. With the exception of about 450 head, the whole of the yarding were shorn. All classes were represented, with a fair proportion of heavy wethers, the balance consisting of mixed sheep. Opening sales showed a sharp decline on the high rates obtained a fortnight ago. The demand was slow and the market showed no improvement with the closing sales. Heavy sheep sold at a reduction of from 4s to 5s and ewes about 2s a head. Shorn wethers sold from 22s to 40s 9d, shorn ewes from 18s to 32s 8d; wethers in the wool, from 33s to 49s 6d, and ewes in the wool from 25s to 39s 6d. A number of hoggets sold from 27s to 31s 3d a head. Prime mutton sold to about old per lb. The lamb entry numbered 277. The arrivals were well grown, being mostly prime, and including lambs suitable for show purposes. The yarding also included a few- plain sorts. There was a good demand at reduced rates, prime lambs selling from 28s to 33s 9d; medium, from 24s to ,275; plain sorts, to 235. Prime lambs sold about lOd per l]i. About 30 medium 2 and 3-year-old steers and a number of fair to good cows were included in the yarding of 200 store cattle. Three-year-old steers sold to £9 Ils, and 2-year-olds to £7-12s 6d. The pig entry consisted of 150 fats and 145 stores.. There was a good demand with little if any changes in prices for all classes. Primo baconers and porkers sold on a basis df about 9d per lb.

JOHNSONVILLE PRICES. ' I At Johnsonville on Tuesday Messrs. Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd. and Abraham and Williams, Ltd., to a large attendance of the public submitted a small yarding of cattle. The sheep yarding was up to the usual numbers, while lambs were yarded in larger numbers than previously. A good sale for beef resulted at prices on a par with last week’s rates.- Wethers met with a good demand at last week’s limits, but ewes were dull of sale, prices showing a reduction of Is per head on late rates. Good lambs sold freely, inferior sorts Being hard to quit.
