AWATUNA TOPICS. The Awatuna school on Friday was decorated with flowers and filled -with parents and children who had gathered to bid farewell to Miss McVicar, who has been their teacher for over two years, and who has been appointed sole teacher at Pohokuro. Miss McVicar has been not only a capable teacher, but Mie has looked after the pupils like a mother. Lucy Walker said: “Miss McVicar, on behalf of the Awatuna school children, I ask you to accept this little token. Since you have been here you have done your best to further the interests of the pupils, and we all feel very sorry at losing you. V.’e all wish you every happiness and success in your new .school.” Miss McVicar was handed a fountain pen. In reply, she thanked the children for their gift and said how pleased she would be' to see them any time at Pohokura. Much as she regretted leaving them, it was generally wise for a teacher n t to st»y too long in one school, but to move, and so gain new ideas and different methods.

The gathering sang “For She’s an Ex c'ellent Lady.” Afternoon tea was pro vided.
