The matches in the North Taranaki shield bowling competition were continued on Saturday, the greens in most cases being very heavy after the rain. Play was marred by occasional showers, but the games were all finished. ■ Under these conditions there were many surprises and tall scoring was in evidence in many instances. ’ Fire Brigade scored their first win of the season when they‘beat Awakino by a surprising margin of 20 points. Fitzroy A had another win when they met Vogeltown, and the Fitzroy B team gave a severe set-back to Paritutu, there being GO points difference on the aggregate. New Plymouth A found West End A much too strong and were beaten by 38 points.
WEST END BEAT NEW PLYMOUTH Playing at West End, the home team had little difficulty in accounting for the visitors. The scores are:—

SOUTHERN DIVISION GAMES. PLAY IN SOUTH TARANAKI. HAWERA CLUB DEFEATED. After a close, and exciting game in which the margin was only 10 pointe, the Hawera Club’s representatives were defeated by Park on the Park green, x Intermittent showers made conditions unpleasant during the afternoon but the game was thoroughly enjoyed and fought in excellent spirit.
