CHRISTMAS CHEER FUND.

(To tho Editor.) Sir,—Although probably quite unknown to a number of your readers there has been for several years in operation in New Plymouth a .Relief Association comprised of the Red. Cross . sister, district sister, Plunkct nurses ' and Salvation Army officer. The objects of this committee are to render temporary assistance to those in very poor and distressed circumstances, care being taken to avoid overlapping. Generous assistance has at all time been rendered this committee by the Taranaki Hospital Board, but had it not been for the splendid efforts of tho Commercial Travellers’ Association during the past two years tho funds would long since .have been depleted a’lid the committee in consequence defunct. When it is realised that last year alone this committee was able to render immediate practical assistance to 267 persons, who were in jnore or less straightened circumstances, ■by way of meals, provisions, clothing, fuel, etc., also the entertaining of 250 children of poor parents in the park at a special Christmas gathering, but for which the festive season to them would bo a name rather than a reality, I think wo can all join and say “well done commercial travellers for making this good work possible.” On Saturday, December 6, our commercial traveller friends are renewing their efforts to provide the necessary fund for tho ensuing year, ftnd I would respectfully urge all citizens who believe in helping those less fortunate than themselves to give, this effort their practical support. Donations large or small will bo gratefully received and faithfully applied.—-I am, etc., PERCY STAINTON.’ Chairman, New Plymouth Relief Assn. New Plymouth, Nov. 30.
