Mr. H. G. Larkin, stationmaster at New Plymouth, is on annual leave, and is being relieved by Mr. Greig. Mr, R. Rea, of New Plymouth, has been notified that he has been elected a member of the New Zealand Institute of Surveyors. Captain T. T. ,Jingo, inspector of fire brigades, will be in New Plymouth on Tuesday, and will inspect the New Plymouth brigade. Mr. H. E. Blyde has been appointed to represent the North Taranaki branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union on the Taranaki Employers’ Association. The Governor-General, Sir Charles Fergusson, visited Gisborne institutions yesterday, and was entertained by the Rotary Club at lunch. He left for Motu. en route to Rotorua, in the afternoon. The death occurred at Christchurch yesterday of Dr. Edward George Levinge, formerly" medical superintendent of the Sunnyside Mental Hospital. lie had lived in retirement in Christchurch for many years, says a Press Association message. The death is reported of Mr. Alexander Donald Mackintosh, chairman of the Wanganui County Council for 9 years. was chairman of directors of the Okoia Dairy Factory, and was associated with other local bodies, says a Press Association message. Mr. R. H. Boyd, who retired yesterday from the position of chief postmaster at Wellington, entered the postal service at Hawera in 1890. Six years later he was transferred to Wanganui, but returned to Hawera in 1897, remaining there until 1912. He became chief postmaster at Wellington last year. News has been received in Auckland of the death at Apia, Samoa, of Mr. Alexander Sutherland, representative for Messrs. John Burns and Company, Ltd., in the Pacific Islands. Not only a wellknown and very popular figure in the Islands, Mr. Sutherland was for many years closely associated with yachting in Auckland. The death occurred at Christchurch yesterday of Mr. William Wardell, one of the founders of a well-known grocery business, says a Press Association message. Death followed a prolonged illness. With his brothers Mr. William Wardell founded the business in Dunedin and Christchurch, and later opened a branch in Wellington.
