TO-DAY’S RACE MEETINGS

SPORT AT TE KUITI AND LEVIN BIG FIELDS AT EACH GATHERING. ' WAIKATO AND OTAKI FORM VIEWE

(Ry

“Moturoa.”)

Big lists of acceptors are the feature of the Te Kuiti and Levin meetings today, and at both places the public will be largely guided by the form shown at the Waikato and Otaki fixtures. Now that the last spring form has become more or less stabilised, the public may be expected "to have a better run than at earlier meetings, and unless anything unforseen happens to-day, the favourites should have a good innings. At both meetings the inclusion of Taranaki horses will interest Taranaki sportsmen, and while the equines from this province have fared poorly, thus far this season, they must surely be on the upgrade. IjEVIN ACCEPTANCES REVIEWED. The programme opens at Levin with the maiden event, timed to start at noon. Rasouli, who raced well at Wellington, promises to be the elect of the public, and in preference to Ben Hur and Pari. * # # # ■ On Otaki form Hard Gold- will be fancied in the hurdles, but Rash and Sunart will not be neglected. # # •' # Footpad raced well at Masterton, and Make Up won at Otaki. These two promise to dispute favouritism in the Weraroa Handicap, but Elysianor will not lack friends. # • « • Clarendon has been racing honestly, and his consistency will ensure him support in the Mako Mako Handicap, in which Ex Dono and Werata will also be backed. « * * * The next race is the Levin Cup, * # * * The Hawk came to light on Thursday to beat some smart sprinters in the open six at Otaki. It was a good performance, though his first win for 18 months. Those who remember his second in the Wellington Cup will not want to pass him by without consideration, and he is sure to have a big quota of admirers. Talisker has been consistently beaten this spring, and though he won this race last year he will need to improve considerably to stand a chance. Merry Mint has struck form again, and as he will be bracketed with The Hawk, there will be considerable money for the pair. The Royal Game —Black Mint bracket will also carry a lot of money, but both will need to improve. Mountain Heath and Roi de Vai will not be neglected.. On the minimum Duellona cannot fail to go well. She ran three good seconds at Riccarton, concluding with a respectable second to Eaglet in the Oaks, and she won handsomely at Otaki. Under her light poundage many may prefer the? / Paladin filly to the Cameron bracket (The Hawk and Merry Mint), and Talis- , ker. « . Imateagirl is a good sort over a middle distance, and if she starts in the Lake Handicap she may see a shorter price than Masker and Chopin. # * ♦ # Goshawk ran a great race at Otaki, and if either of his stablemates comes home in the Cup there will be many wanting to back him in the McDonald Memorial. Banket raced last in hack company, but she scored decisively and should relish the lighter scale of weights. Hunting Boy is another smart sort from the hack ranks; he went fairly well at Otaki. Melissa and Veronese will be. suited by the shorter straight, but unless Melissa has become more solid than she was last year her races at Otaki may find her out. In a good betting race Hunting Boy, Banket and Veronese appear likely to be a favoured trio. # # # # There will be a rush for positions in the Hokio. Handicap, and smart beginners like Acora, Just So and Rasouli (if reserved) will be in demand. # * * « ■ The races will commence at 12. 12.45, 1.30, 2.15, 3, 3.45, 4.30 and 5.20. •» 0 0 0 Imateagirl will be a warm order if saddled up for the Lake Hack Handicap. Disrank looked well at Otaki, and Chopin is another that w;ill see the distance right out. . '

PUBLIC FANCIES AT TE KUITI. ? Coll, Tuku and Parfait Amour will be ? eupported in the Maiden at the Te Kuiti meeting. . * # * # The Lamb, Ah Wera and Cybele have admirers in the hurdles. # fl « # ySValroe promises to be favourite for . thp Awakino Handicap, but Archilecn has form now. » a a a Lady’s Boy, Ohinemuri and Flying Prince are three in the To Kuiti Cup who should be benefited by their recent racing. # a a * Luminary is a fair sort, and his Waikato form may ensure for him more support in the Te Kuiti Handicap than for Uuoco and Pompeius. aa. a a Sir Russell is back to his best again, and if Ohinemuri starts in the. Cup Sir :’l Russell may have a bigger following in ; the Puketuho Handicap than Macrooil. «■ a* - # a They are a mixed lot in the Otorohanga Handicap. Archieval, Big Bertha and Valstreet may be expected to be improved by their recent racing. ■» fl « fl Ridgemounf will not be ready to show his best yet, and is racing in view of his engagements at Takapuna. Those whose recent form has been best include ‘ Awarere, Mervettc and Takutama. # # * # The races will commence at 12, 12.40, 1.25, 2.15, 3, 3.45, 4.30 and 5.15. TE KUITI SCRATCHINGS. TAKAPUNA JOCKEY CLUB MEETING. f FIRST DAY’S ACCEPTANCES. Bj‘ Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. . Tlie following are the acceptances for the first day of the Takapuna Jockey Club’s meeting:—

DOWN THE LINE. (By “Moturoa.”) The first race at Levin to-day starts at noon. With form well exposed at Otaki there will be some fairly warm favourites served up to-day. a * ■# # Streamer and Ben Hur gained minor placings at Otaki,. and if started in the Maiden Plate will have plenty of admirers. » * ♦ # The hurdlers are a fair lot, and include several new ones. Peshwa is fresh and well, and may trouble Hard Gold, though the latter may again be favourite. >» e o « Footpad, Make Up and Dermod figure in the Weraroa Hack Handicap, and all three can run out seven furlongs. Make Up beat a good lot on Thursday, and appears to be a good sort. i) y -1> ■ The Make Mako Hack Handicap will draw a mixed field. Marica finished well at Otaki, though beaten by a really good one in Cadland, and may have better luck at Levin. Ex Dono and Acredity will also have supporters. w o a o The Levin Cup will be contested by a good class field. Duellona seems to be improved with hard racing and, on her. second in the Oaks, should see the journey out well. Talisker, Merry Mint and Glare' are all yery fit, .... a : ' il ‘ o Goshawk appeared to be very unlucky at Otaki on Wednesday, and had only to have kept straight to have won. The Hawke’s Bay horse, with Hunting Boy and Veronese, should carry the bulk of the investments. « « The last race, thtf Hokio Hack Handicap, will see a very big field go to the post, and the draw may influence backere. Coon Song, Acora and Tapestry all begin smartly, and the turning track should be all in their favour. # o o « Arikinui has had an easy time since returning from Sydney, and looked a trifle burly when produced at Otaki on the first day. He ran a good race, but was allowed to pay a false price on Thursday. • This horse should win a good open sprint at the holiday meetings. #. « o o Rule Britannia was fortunate to miss the “mix-up” in the Trial Plate on Thursday at Ota'ki, but would probably have won eVen if the mishap had not occurred. By Chief Ruler from tha.t great- sprinter Gladiole, she is bred the right way, and should prove a paying proposition for Messrs. H. E. Connop and H. J. McManaway. # # # # The Hawk met with a fine reception when he scored at Otaki on Thursday. The veteran son of Martian was stopped at one stage, but once young Broughton got him clear he finished at a great rate, making the rest look very cheap. The old gelding retains his speed wonderfully well, but it will be a long time before he gets in with 8.12 in moderate company, as at Otaki. w d w w Hector Gray’s services were in great demand at Otaki, and he rode with great dash, and wog practically in the money right through the meeting. No other horseman would have got Elysianor into second place on Wednesday, and he was out” to get First Money home in first place in the Waitawa Handicap. Gray rode two winners, five seconds and three thirds in the two days, <>•
