WESTOWN SCHOOL BALL
SUCCESSFUL INAUGURAL DANCE. » GAILY BEDECKED KIDDIES ATTEND The Wes'town School last night held its first fancy-dress ball, and so successful was this inaugural effort that the function promises to be an annual one. St. Mary’s Hall, bearing its brightest aspect with yellow and pale blue streamers criss-crossed from wall to wall, was a fine setting for such an event, and the bright white walls and splendid lighting effects set off the costumes of the children very well. Through the intricate steps of a long, varied programme of dances the children gave a fine interpretation of the art and their efforts reflected great credit on their teachers.’ Misses Kirton, Papps, Simpson and Garcia were responsible for the tuition of the junior pupils, while Mr. D. A. Sadler, Misses Gannoway, Simpson and Bell coached the senior pupils. Mesdames Harrison and Prince also rendered valuable assistance in teaching. The teachers and Mrs. Harrison provided the music for the children’s dances, the youngsters occupying the floor until 10 o’clock. Then for the adults Renton’s orchestra supplied a programme of music. The big task of catering for the children were in the hands of an energetic ladies’ committee, Mrs. Lowe being the convenor. At the conclusion of the children’s dance Mr. T. Aylward, chairman of the school committee, congratulated the school on its effort and stated that those responsible deserved credit. The headmaster (Mr. Brown) and his staff had done excellent work and the result was a splendid success at short notice. Cheers for all those who had assisted were heartily given.
