FLORINS AND HALF-CROWNS
COUNTERFEITS IN CIRCULATION, NUMBERS REJECTED BY BANKS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Qhristchurch, Last Night. A large number of counterfeit florins and half-crowns are reported to be in circulation in Christchurch. Bad coins were first detected some weeks ago, but during the past few days the banks have been offered a larger number, probably due to the increased issue during carnival week. The half-crowns are dated 1919 and the florins 1926. They are lighter and brighter than genuine coins. The milling and lettering are not quite perfect, but the coins are such good imitations that many may be passed even after a warning.
