OLD BOYS’ SURF CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING,:ADJOURNED. There was. a v&ry .poQr response to the call to members and? supporters of the New Plymouth High; School Old Boys’ Surf Club at the annual meeting last night, only eight, members being present. Mr. 11. J. Duffin, presided. It was a pity, sai,d .the chairman, that the Old Boys’ Club, ...whose record in past years was one, to be proud of, should find it necessary to disband. He considered it was ,tho; duty of those present to make an attempt to secure new members in an. effort to revive the club. Various schemes .were formulated but rejected because of, the lack of support, and it was finally decided to set up a committee composed of Messrs. R. J. Howell, H. Watkins, 11. Antnony, S. Corkill and A. Hetherington to meet the New Plymouth Swimming Club to solicit the. aid of that club in securing new members. It was decided to adjourn the meet-, ing sine die, and the committee elected was empowered to call an adjourned annual meeting when the preliminary arrangements had been completed. The sixth, annual (report,, stated that tho club had maintained pitsusual patrol

over the Ngamotu beach. At the annual competitions the club had riot been as fortunate as in previous years and the Tabor Shield, which had been held for four years, passed on to Opunake. The junior team had acquitted itself well and had been narrowly beaten for the pennant. The club had a membership of 30, which was an increase over previous years. It was gratifying to see that younger members had joined, which should keep the club going. During the year the club had had difficulty in meeting its obligations. This was duo to the number of members who had failed to pay their subscriptions. In spite of losing the Tabor Shield, interest had been taken in the club and the members had attended the practices well. The A team had been comprised of the same members for several seasons, but with neyj members it .was hoped this difficulty would bo removed. Seven members had passed then* examination for the Surf Club Life Guard’s badge and in the new season it was hoped all members would go up for Ibis .examination, : ' • ... m o;) 'ftt’i :.i<!!'•
