TARANAKI GIRL GUIDES

FIRST PROVINCIAL RALLY. ' / • ■ ' ■ ■■' . The first provincial rally of the Taranaki Guides and. Brownies will be held at the New Plymouth racecourse next Saturday. The visiting companies and packs .will be conveyed by train, a special excursion having been granted by the Railway Department. The train will leave Patea at 6.30 a.m., and en route will pick up Guides, Brownies, and their friends at Ball Road, Mokoia, Hawera, Eltham, and Stratford.

There are 15 Guide companies and 12 Brownie packs in the province, and these comprise four companies and three packs in New Plymouth, a company and a pack in Patea, a company in Alton, four companies, four packs, and a Ranger company in Hawera, a company at Mauaia, a company and a pack at Opunake, a company and a pack at Kaponga, a patrol at Kiore, and. a company and a pack at Stratford. The public will be given an opportunity on Saturday of seeing something of the work that is being done. . • ■

The rally will commence at 2 p.m. sharp with" the arrival of the Provincial Commissioner, Mrs. D. K. Morrison, accompanied by Miss Skinner, the provincial secretary, who will be niet by the divisional . commissioners for the province. A colour party of Hawera Guides will then break the colours, and the band will play the National Anthem. After this there will be a grand march past of all the Guide companies, following the Brownie Trot. The girls will pass the saluting base where the Provincial Commissioner will stand to take the salute. A varied programme will follow. It will include drill, a spectacular display, when, two companies of Guides will outline the trefoil, which is the official badge of the Girl Guide organisation, and a number of Brownies will signal the motto “Be Prepared” in semaphore. The Hawera Rangers will give, a haka, and there will be a procession of some of the proficiency badges, which can be won by the girls, and a pageant showing the. ideals of service, and love of the open air, upon which the movement is founded. The South Taranaki Brownies will form their fairy ring, and give the grand salute to their chief, Mrs. D. K. Morrison, while the Brownies of New Plymouth, Stratford and Kaponga will present a tooth drill display. On arrival of the train at New Plymouth, the visiting companies arid packs will be met by the New Plymouth companies, and the combined procession will proceed via Devon and Liardet Streets and Pukekura Park to the racecourse, where the girls will picnic until the commencement of the afternoon’s proceedings. . The arrangements for tea and hot drinks for the girls are in the hands of the New Plymouth local association. Afternoon tea will be procurable on the grounds for a small sum. Given a fine day, the public is assured of a unique entertainment, and an op- ' portunity, of seeing this fine body of young people who represent what is considered to be the principal organisation of youth in the world to-day.
