The monthly meeting of the bowling club was held on Thursday evening at the secretary’s residence. Mr. Tait presided over a fair attendance. • If the singles championship is completed in time the pairs championship competition will be continued. A pair of bowls given to the club some time ago will be competed for as a singles championship trophy the round to decide on the championship as well. The handicappers will be J. A. Tyack and C. Thurston.

Messrs Dawson and Tyack were appointed to attend a western division conference at Opunake on November 24 to discuss matters in relation to the Lainbie memorial shield, which had been given to be division by the late Mr. William Lambie, Pihama.

GENERAL ITEMS. The 44 mile championship race of the Kaponga Cycle Club round the Manaiablock on Saturday afternoon was postponed because only three riders attended. The weather was probably to blame. A note of encouragement was sounded for boxing enthusiasts on Thursday night, when representatives of the Hawera Boxing Association attended a meeting in the Oddfellows’ Hall. They were prepared to open a branch of the association at Kaponga if there were enough pupils to make it a success. The delegates decided to call a further meeting for Thursday. The combined bands of Kaponga and Manaia will present a varied programme, of vocal and instrumental music at the Kaponga Town Hall on Thursday evening. The opening selection “Pirates of Penzance” will be played by the Manaia Band, followed by humour by a vocal quartette comprising Misses Hey and Johnston and Messrs. J. Hey r and Hanson. Vocal items will be contributed by Mrs. H. G. Gyde, Miss A, White, Mrs. V. F. Winter, Mr. H. A, Gallagher, Mr. C. J. McFadyen, Air. W. Hey and Mr. Epai. Misses Joyce and Junne Goodwin will be heard in elocu-

tionary numbers, Mr. R. Swan will play a cornet solo and the Kaponga Chorus Party, under the direction of Mrs. Evans, will contribute items. . The “Rev Simple Simon” is to deliver a humourous sketch. Mr. McFadyen will be heard in a humorous monologue. A free bus will run from Kaponga, Kapuni, Auroa and Awatuna, returning at the conclusion of the dance to be held after the concert. The net proceeds will be distributed between th® Kaponga and Manaia banda.
