OPUNAKE NEWS.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) The dance held in the Oaonui hall on Thursday night in aid of the Oaonui tug-of-war chib was well patronised. Coburn’s orchestra supplied the music, and Mr. C. M. Bishop was M.C. The prize of £1 Is for the Monte Carlo dance was won by Miss Mathews and Mr. C. Clegg. The second Monte Carlo dance was won by Miss D. Wan and Mr. S. Clegg. Extras were played by Misses Julian, Field and Duggan. A soft drinks stall, in charge of Mr. W. Briscoe, did good business during the evening. A tasty supper was dispensed by a ladies’ committee, comprising Mesdaraes Ibbitson, Gardner, Wilson, Coonibes and Miss Field. The door takings amounted to over £2O. A great' deal of the success of the dance was due to the energetic secretary (Mr. C. M. Bishop). The funeral of the late Mr. David Blackie took place on Saturday. Rev. T. Coatsworth conducted the service at the graveside. Deceased had. been in failing health for some time, and had come to Te Kiri to reside with relatives for the improvement of his health. Ho was of a retiring and kindly disposition.
