Promptly at one minute to 9 the competitors were -despatched from the Square in Palmerston. North. Hussy established ah exceptionally fast journey to . Foxton, passing this point over 18 minutes ahead of his co-marker. Passing through the Foxton township the scratch men had gained two minutes on the 10-mihute riders and Lukey and Gane were : doing most of the work. Hussy reached Levin at 11.7 a.m. ; after covering the 37 miles unaccompanied in good time. Blakeway. and W. Collins - (Palmerston North), who ■ were off the 17-minute mark, rode steadily through Levin 51 minutes, after the limit riian had passed. There was still no appearance of the 15 10 minute and scratch riders. Hussy reached Paraparaumu at 12.50.
