PRESBYTERIAN FUNCTION. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The Waitara Presbyterian Church held its annual tea and concert on Thursday night, and as in previous years it was largely attended and those present had an enjoyable evening. The function was held in the Clifton Hall, which was decorated in a most lavish fashion, the stage being transformed into a most attractive bower. Proceedings started at 6 p.m. with a bounteous repast, after which an excellent concert was given by New Plymouth artists. The Rev. J. N. Coombes apologised for the absence of some of the performers on account’ of illness. The programme was as-follows:— 'Flute solo, Mr. L. Bosworth; song, Mrs. • F. C. Ferry; tenor solo, Mr. F. Baird; recital, Airs. Nelson Hill; song, Miss R. Rowe; violin solo, Mr. A. Hay; bass sold, Mr. J. P. McPherson; song, Mr. A. B. McDonald; flute solo, Mr. Bosworth; song, Mrs. F. C. Ferry; song, Mr. Basil Hurst; recital, Mrs. Nelson Hill; song, Miss R. Rowe; song, Mr. Baird; violin solo, Mr. A. Hay; song, Mr. Basil Hurst. Many encores were demanded. Mr. Coombes expressed the committee’s indebtedness to Air. A. B. Macdonald for arranging for the perform; ers. A vote of thanks was passed to him and the performers and to Mr. H. Morey, on whom the duties of accompanist fell.

At the conclusion of the concert the visitors were entertained at supper. The executive of the Waitara. Cycling and Athletic Chib met on Thursday evening to make ai rangements for next Thursday's road race. It was decided that the open race be run over a course from Waitara to Waipapa factory, returning through Waitara to the Bell Block monument and returning and finishing at the Masonic Hotel. This, it was considered, would be of greater interest to the public, as the riders would pass through Waitara during the progress of the race. x The messenger boys’ race to take place immediately afterwards, will be from Waitara to the pound corner, returning through Waitara to Brixton and back home to Waitara.
