UREN.UI SEASIDE WORK ' .ACTIVITIES -OF THE SOCIETY. ANNUAL MEETING OF MEMBERS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Mr. D. Wiley presided over a good attendance at tlie annual meeting of the Urenui Seaside Society. An apology was received from Air. &. Topless, the retiring president, who regretted through indisposition he was unable to attend. The report on the season’s activities was: “The year has been the most successful since the inauguration of the society was able to concrete the men’s with the finances in very healthy state. There is a credit balance of £52, and £2 is held as cash in hand. “The camping ground proved Very l popular with tourists, who came from | all over the North Island. The secre- | tarie-s had no difficulty in collecting j nearly £l5 in voluntary donations from i contented campers. A long-felt want is about to be satisfied by the building of a cook-house for campers. The plans have been prepared by a sub-committec consisting of Messrs. T. Lee, D. Wiley and F. Clark. Air. Clark has consented to supervise the work and it behoves members to assist in the building to enable completion before the camping season commences. “In order to assist the county council the society intends to cut back the gorse on the new road. Vandals have smashed all tlie windows in the bathing sheds. Towards the end of the season the socicy was able to concrete the men’s bathing shed, which is now in good order. .. “A suggestion from campers is that shelter trees w? u M be appreciated in the very hot weather. This is on the list of authorised works as are the building-in of the space between tjje sheds, the installation of a water-heat-ing apparatus and the painting of the sheds. It is suggested that these matters receive the attention of tile incoming committee first of all. “The society was unfortunate in the weather for its annual beach day on New Year’s Day and under the circumstances the credit balance of £7 6s 6d must be considered highly satisfactory. This balance was largely due to the assistance given by visiting campers. “It will be necessary to enlarge the camping area this year and it' is suggested that the new committee view the ground with that idea.” Thanks were accorded Air. Excellent lambing percentages have been reported by wool growers whose docking operations are now practically over. In the majority of cases 100 to 120 per cent, has resulted and most flocks appear to have produced a record number of twins. The season appears exceptional for dual progeny as dairy farmers in various parts of the district have reported twin calves from some of their cows. The extra supplementary fodder saved last season has proved useful to dairy farmers this spring, feeding-out operations in a number of cases being necessary for a much longer period than usual. The warm rains and mild weather conditions generally prevailing during the past few days has given considerable impetus to pasture growth and the benefits are reflected in the daily increase in the milk sdpply at si'-I.':-y i...fl)fii.hiL' I'.'''
