FARMERS’ TOUR ON SUNDAY

OBJECTION AT ASHBURTON. By Telegraph—Press Association. Ashburton, Last Night. A lively discussion took place at the Mid-Canterbury executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union over the fact that the Tasmanian touring farmers are scheduled to spend only a Sunday in this district. It is suggested the visitors inspect the Government experimental farm in the morning and • motor through the country in the afternoon. Objection was raised to Sunday trips, a motion of protest being moved and seconded. Mr. Hammond: You may as well protest against trips to Otira on Sundays. Mr. Evans: No. This is our business; the Otira trip has nothing to,do with

us. Mr. H. Brown: You should take this in committee. Eighty per cent, of the people of Canterbury do not observe Sunday. Voices: Hardly that 1 Mr. H. C. B. Withell said the feeling of the visitors had not been taken into account.

Mr. Brown: There is no other place in New Zealand where they would kick up such a fuss. Finally the following motion was carried: The executive regret that the visit of Tasmanian farmers is limited to a Sunday only, and considers the following Monday should have been included in their stay in Ashburton.
