WIND-UP BALL AT OMATA

GRF,AT SUCCESS ACHIEVED. All previous records were eclipsed by the “De Luxe ball” which was held in the Omata hall last night as a finale to the season’s activities, and a fitting culmination it proved. From as far away as Urenui on the one side and Opunake on the other, motor-cars and buses delivered their freight until by the time set for the opening waltz the floor was crowded with considerably over 200 couples. The committee had spared no pains to ensure an enjoyable time for all. The hall had been very tastefully decorated, the ceiling being festooned with flags, whilst the walls were decorated with native greenery relieved with arum lilies and pink rhododendrons.- The floor had been polished till it shone like glass, mirroring the many beautiful dresses worn by the ladies as they glided gracefully in the old-fashioned waltzes or pirouetted in the more modern dances to the latest airs dispensed by Coburn’s Star orchestra. The combination made easy the task of the M.’sC., Messrs. L. Pen warden and E. Luxton. Extras were played by Misses E. Taylor, N. Skelton and Crawshaw, Messrs. N. Edwin and H. Bayly. The sup’per room was a picture, being tastefully decorated with native greenery relieved with cherry blossom and venediums. The tables were laden with good fare, and so splendid was the service that, though several sittings were necessary, there was the minimum of delay. The organisation was a tribute to the ladies’ committee, comprising Mcsdames E. Andrews, (secretary), W. J. McKee, D. Penwarden, R. Penwarden, L, Hare, A. J. Luxton, V. Fremantle, R. G. Knapman, R. C. Stanton, Misses R. Luxton, M. Luxton and M. Bayly. The committee certainly has every reason to feel pleased at. the result of the efforts. . Its members are Messrs. R. G. Knapman (chairman and secretary), R. C. Stanton (treasurer), V. Fremantle, E. Luxton, A. J. Luxton, R. Pen warden, L. Pen warden,' L. Hare and B. Bayly.
