“LITERATURE IN TURKEY. London, Sept. 23. Horrified by the revelation that only one new book has been published in Turkey in the past year, says the Constantinople correspondent of the Manchester Guardian, the Linguistic Commission is conscripting literary men to build up a new literature, and has ordered then; to translate leading foreign works, such as Emil Ludwig’s “Napoleon.” The Ministry of Instruction has forbidden the teaching of Oriental works written prior to 19-08. The drama is also being modernised with translations of London successes at present holding the stage.
