BOWLING SEASON OPENS

MANY VISITORS AT HAWERA PARK The Hawera Park Bowling Club’s green was’ officially opened on Saturday afternoon in the presence of over 100 bowlers representing the clubs of Kaponga, Manaia, West End (New Plymouth), Waycrley, Patea, Palmerston North, Auroa, Eltham, Avon (Stratford), Tariki, Hawera, Opunake, Rahotu and Warea. Mr. J. J. Goodwin, the club’s presia cordial welcome to the visitors. The president of the Taranaki Centre, Mr. T. Petty, said he carried an expression of goodwill from the centre, which wished the club a prosperous season. He congratulated the Park Club on the splendid condition of the green and the popularity/’bf the club, as evidenced by the number of visitors present. .. On Mrs. Goodwin! throwing the jack the president declared the green open for play, and during afternoon all greens were occupied alnhost solely by visitors. Messrs. C. Johnston (Auroa) and N. C. miniature rifle shooting. The holder of the Hawera Miniature Rifle Club’s junior button, J. Tapp, was the only member, to retain his trophy at a shoot on Friday night. On account of sickness in the district there was a very disappointing attendance at the ‘‘wind-up” ball in the hall on Friday night, and as expenses were high the committee will suffer some loss. Allon, Scotland, who is staying with her nephew, Mr. Thompson. Miss Calder is visiting Mrs. Lee. and was present at the ball on Friday night.
