MOTOR DRIVERS ATTACKED. “BASHER” GANG OUTRAGE. Another attack was perpetrated by a “basher” gang upon a timber worker in Sydney recently. William Chandler, aged 25, a timber worker, was driving, his lorry, in company with another lorry from the yards of Hardy and Sons, when the two drivers were bombarded with well-directed bricks and large stones that. were hurled by several men, who rushed from the side of the road. Ona brick smashed the windscreen of Chandler’s lorry and struck him a stunning blow on the head just as he was getting out of range. It was only by a great effort that he was able to keep his seat and steer away for assistance, with the blood pouring from the gaping cut in his head. Chandler was admitted to hospital, suffering from a split scalp and lacerations and abrasions. An arrest was made later.
