AUROA. (From Our Own Correspondent.) On Wednesday afternoon there was again a good attendance at the monthly meeting of the W.D.F.U., when correspondence was read relating to rally week, book club, Dominiin cookery book, etc. It was decided that an individual effort be made during rally week to increase the membership. A collection of books, and magazines will be made on behalf of the men ou the public works at Tangarakau. As Sister Ingles was unable to be present, part, of the afternoon was spent in a friendly discussion on seasonal topics pertaining to gardening and housework in general. Mrs. King related an interesting and profitable experiment she had made in planting alternate rows of peas and beans with and without manure, and how those rows .first filled in with manure rapidly outgrew the others. Another lady had found that the simplest and meet effective way of combating the bird nuisance with seeds, especially peas, was to soak them in kerosene for just a few minutes, when birds would never touch them. x Mesdames West and Everett provided afternoon tea. Ray Symes is home again from the hospital. Eric Brown is still an inmate of the Kaponga hospital. The milder change in the weather is much appreciated by the farmers and grass is beginning to grow, the growth of which this season has . been. retarded at least a month. The Rev. Dudley will shortly give another of his interesting addresses on astronomy, whilst the farmers are to hear a lecture shortly on ensilage-making.
