HOURS FOR BRICK WORKERS

STEPS TG RECOVER OVERTIME. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Oct. 5. In the Arbitration Court award for brickworkers delivered by Mr. Justice Blair, a week’s work was fixed at 48 hours on the interpretation of the Factories Act (1921-22). ■ This has prompted the brick, tile, pottery and clay workers in the industrial district to consider steps to recover overtime worked, and not paid for, during t’he past five years. A conservative estimate is stated to fix the total involved at about £5060. It is recalled that Mr. Justice Frazer in 1923 and 1925 refused to recognise the Factories Act as relating to the brick workers’ industry. Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin unionists have been communicated with, having in view concerted action.
